NIIK successfully completes comprehensive equipment overhaul at a plant in Egypt
From May 24 to June 2, 2025, a team of NIIK specialists carried out repair works on the lining of the upper section of the urea synthesis reactor at the HFC production site in Egypt. The project included the replacement of the upper belt of the cylindrical section lining, as well as the lining of the conical part of the upper head and the nozzle. The work was carried out under extreme climate conditions, with ambient temperatures exceeding 40°C. Despite the challenging weather, the HFC team maintained constant oversight of each repair stage and provided critical support, ensuring timely delivery of tools, equipment, and consumables.
NIIK experts from the non-destructive testing, diagnostics, metallurgy, corrosion, and welding laboratory were present on site throughout the project to oversee and ensure the quality of each work phase. To facilitate effective communication with the local staff and overcome language barriers, Head of Foreign Licensor Support Department of NIIK was involved, providing coordination, communication, and prompt assistance in resolving emerging issues.
All project phases were completed on schedule and met high-quality standards. As a final step, hydrotests were conducted, confirming the system’s integrity — no leaks or pressure drops were recorded. Following the hydrotests, the reactor was opened for internal inspection of the new lining and for color defectoscopy of the weld seams.
The client, HFC, expressed strong satisfaction with the results, highlighting the professionalism, expertise, and coordinated efforts of the NIIK team. The company also emphasized its readiness for continued cooperation and the implementation of future joint projects.
