On November 26, the IX Meeting of the Russia-Kazakhstan Business Council (RKBC) was held in Ufa as part of the 20th Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan. The event brought together over 70 companies from both countries, representing various economic sectors.

The Vice Ministers of Trade from Russia and Kazakhstan, Kairat Torebayev (Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and Dmitry Volvach (Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation), also addressed the audience with welcoming remarks.

"The Business Council serves as a unique platform for all of us to consider how we can collaborate to foster the development of our countries and strengthen bilateral ties amidst new challenges," noted Timur Zharkenov, Chairman of the Kazakhstan section of the RKBC.

The main focus of the meeting was the development of joint trade and infrastructure projects. Both Russia and Kazakhstan play key roles in the global transportation network, particularly in light of the transition to diversified logistics routes amidst global changes.

Special attention was given to the synergy of science and technology. Moving beyond simple trade exchanges, Russia and Kazakhstan are increasingly interested in deeper industrial cooperation. Collaboration in scientific and technological fields is poised to drive the growth of high-tech industries. Reflecting this theme, Oleg Drobotuschenko, CEO of NIIK, spoke on behalf of the Russian delegation.

In his speech, Mr.  Drobotuschenko highlighted that food security is a critical aspect of collaboration between the two nations, achieved in part through the use of advanced technologies in mineral fertilizer production. NIIK has enjoyed a more than 70-year history of industrial cooperation with Kazakhstan, with all urea production facilities in the country developed with the company’s participation. He also provided insights into NIIK’s current activities, its innovative technologies, and their implementation across enterprises in Russia and neighboring regions.

"Our technologies have been verified by the state, which is ready to support their implementation. Confidence in our expertise allows us to invite Kazakhstan’s scientific and technical community to engage in joint research and development," Mr. Drobotuschenko stated.

The presentation garnered significant interest from the Kazakh side. Kairat Torebayev, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Trade and Integration, emphasized the region’s focus on modern technological advancement.

Industrial cooperation between the two nations was also reflected in the final document of the meeting. Logistics, agriculture, petrochemicals, and high technology were identified as key areas of Russia-Kazakhstan collaboration. The two sides are preparing to sign several memorandums and commercial agreements to further their partnership.
