RCF is one of the largest urea manufacturers in India. Commissioned in 1981, Thal complex comprises 2300 MTPD ammonia plant and three 2100 MTPD urea plants. In 2016-2017 NIIK successfully installed Internal Devices into Urea Reactor of RCF Trombay plant.
In 2017, RCF Thal and NIIK signed a contract for modernization of three urea reactors with NIIK Internal Devices. The first set of equipment was supplied in December 2017. Installation works were completed within five days. In February 2018 after startup and stabilization of the plant, the parties started a guarantee performance test.
Based on the results of 72-hour continuous test, the parties recorded MS steam saving of 51,75 kg/MT (guaranteed MS steam saving value 50 kg/MT). Along with significant reduction of energy consumption, there were also many signs of efficiency enhancement of HP, MP and LP sections. Among others, increase of reactor bottom temperature and significant reduction of ammonium carbamate recycle was noticed during the GTR. CO2 conversion in urea reactor increased by 1,1%. Urea content in the solution from urea reactor increased by 1,61%.
